The Google Holiday Party |
12.24.08 | Personal

|

My second love is EVENT photography. No seriously. Attending the parties, let alone shooting them, is loads of fun. Its a pinch me moment shooting dimly lit rooms with awesome decor. Two weeks ago I invited myself to to hang with uber- cool DJ's, Leslie & Sean. More details to follow sometime this week. They are amazing DJ's and I want to share some info about them with you. I've been down with the flu for almost 2 weeks, now that I'm back up to speed, I have to get busy posting on the latest. Here's a snippet of the party. Lucky me, Mitch (from Cabfare productions) posed for a cameo. Gorsh, I'm blushing! You'll love Google's crazy holiday photos. Stay tuned.

the montelucia resort |
12.19.08 | Weddings

|

A very excited bride sent me the link to her wedding venue earlier today. They booked this gem of a venue long before it was built! After months of waiting, the site is finally ready! Only, the wedding isn't for another 14 months. Nestled in Paradise Valley, AZ, you can't ask for a more dramatic setting, the Montelucia is it. Deluxe linens, ambiance, and exquisite taste in design, this is a photographers paradise. Clicking through photo galleries, I'm drooling over the resort's rustic textures and Southern Spanish influence. Here are a few photos from the Montelucia website.
Thanks Tammy & James! muah. muah.

cathedral length veil |

Here's a peek at Heather & Spencer's Portland wedding. I'm in love with Heather's cathedral-length veil. They have impeccable taste as a couple. Not to mention, Heather is a bombshell beauty to work with. Below are 2 of my fave images that stood out during the initial browse. I can't believe this will be my last album design for 2008! Have you enjoyed the album slideshows?
The 3 most popular slideshow for 2008 were: Clloyd with 74,902 views. J'amy and Nathan with 96,257 views. Mellicia & Justin with 112,917 views. I don't know who all of you are, but I hope you enjoy visiting my blog! Albums are a labor of love, its a huge satisfaction and relief to complete a design. Only then does my job feel mostly done. Each one is created from scratch. I'd love to know who's out there and what you love about coming back here. Leave a few comments below. Share your stats.

I don't have a picture that goes along with this story, unfortunately. I'm certainly not posting a picture of you-know-what. Please, continue reading anyways. You're already here. Reading this. Waiting for the punchline. Stick around and see what its all about. According to Wesa (see previous post) there should be more personal stories on this blog. If you disagree, you need to comment below, because there is much more where this came from. In fact, if you read this and feel scared enough to never come back, its all Wesa's fault.
Here goes: With Ray's help and the aid of at least 3 different books on metabolism, I am FINALLY beginning to see results in our quest for better fitness. The scale bounces around a certain number, which shall remain classified for the next 35 years, at which point, it will be disclassified and everyone will have forgotten about it. Aside from the scale that doesn't tell us much, certain parts have shrunk, a few spots firmed. Other body parts that shall remain nameless, will stay the same. No matter the amount of cellulite cream or side bends completed, such parts will continue to be uninvolved in the fitness program. This is due to an evil thing doctors call: DNA. Personally, I hate those parts. I wish they would jump on the fitness bandwagon already.
The pinnacle for me as we begin to see tiny results was undoubtedly the day I was approached at the gym about my backside. Yes, its true.
On a typical gym day, a woman in a jogging suit smiled at me from across the gym. I returned the smile. I see her often, she's a gym regular like us. Ray worked on his back muscles, I worked on legs. It began with sqauts. We both plugged in our iPods and starting pumping away. Then, something odd happened. The smiley woman approached and unexpectedly blurts out "You have a nice butt. I like this."
I swear I couldn't believe it. After the initial shock, my heart swelled with pride. Its not every day you get a compliment on your boo-ty. Occasionally a stranger might say "hey girl, nice scarf." Or perhaps a coworker will remark , " You drive Vokswagen? Wow, that's my dream car." But this compliment was about yielding the fruits of our labor. This compliment meant that someone was kind of enough to see the difference between junk in the trunk and a junky trunk.
In the words of Ice Cube: It was a good day.

| Miss Leah stopped by the tacoma art studio for headshots. Do you like? She was a doll to work with. Honestly people, I'm slowly running out of weddings to post as my workload slows down. In other areas, like portraits, it can't get any busier. Leave a few comments, I'd like to hear it from the blogstalkers: what would you LOVE to see here? Check out Leah's adorable mini-hat!

Brooke & Daniel *wedding* |
12.09.08 | Weddings

|

There's a first for everything. Here's my first Thanksgiving wedding. It took place in Portland. I love shooting in Portland. There's an artistic rush about photography in PDX.
Meet Daniel & Brooke, 2 vintage-admirers and world travelers. We had a quick conversation before booking on short notice. When they shared their lovestory & lifestyle with me, I was eager for the day to arrive. Really eager! I knew it would be serene and simplistic. They stayed true to a family-oriented creative vision. My favorite part was shooting on Thanksgiving. Ray came with me to dine at Jake's downtown. He even came out of retirement for a couple of hours to shoot. Guys can't resist the temptation to use my cameras.
Brooke's gown consisted of an organic cotton/hemp mix. She said her dress felt like cozy bedsheets. Daniel wore a custom butterscotch wool suit, dapper is the first word that came to mind when the pair united for their "first look."
Thank you Brooke & Daniel! It was such a treat working with you & the families at the Chinese Garden.
Sincerely,
April & Ray
